Located on the way out of Upminster/London, the bus stop outside marks the last point in which one can use an Oyster Card for buses before leaving zone 6. Because this, this pub somehow resonates a 'village' feel (even though it is part of a chain), especially seeing as it backs onto Essex fields.

The drink selection is average/good with the prices reflecting that. The food is your generic 'chain pub' food. Burgers and so on with roasts on sundays.

The atmosphere here is always quiet, never packed out and no TV's showing sport or pool tables. This sometimes works against the place, as a Friday night here often feels like a Monday afternoon. The actual property itself is extremely nice, with a big seating area, garden, car park and a local legend about a the haunted mens restroom!

If you live local, and would like a quiet pint, then this is the place. For others who live closer to Upminster town centre, then the trek to the pub is not worth the effort when there are similar places in town.

The bread and olives starter is not even worth considering. As a restaurant, this place is just awful. Out of the ten of us, no one was satisfied with their meal. Some of the meals were cold, but that wasn't the main issue (as a large group we kind of expected it.) From the pools of grease on the gammon steak, to the super sweet fatty pie filling, it wasn't a great success. The salad was withered to oblivion, consistently throughout every dish.
As for the service: nearly getting hit in the face by the waitress with every plate she put on the table was quite a shock. We never even got asked how our meal was, or if we wanted extra condiments.
The low ceiling makes the restaurant very noisy, and the majority of customers are quite rowdy. Perhaps it would be good to return to the beer garden in the summer - for drinks only - but steer well away from the food.

Not a bad venue with outdoor seating. Part of the ember inn chain so have standard pub food which is average and a good selection of drinks. Often find they host a lot of wakes so busy with people. It gets very busy in the summer and sometimes finds the garden is full of bees/wasps. Overall an ok pub but doesn't offer anything that specials
